One thing I’ve always noted is how well-dressed my father is in photos from his youth. Among my favorites are these photos shot outside the Ortman Hotel in Canistota, South Dakota. The Hanneman family vacationed in the Dakotas several times. Another visit was detailed in this post about cowboy Hiram Greene.
These photos are likely from 1946 or 1947. The Ortman Hotel is right next to the famous Ortman chiropractic clinic. The hotel is still there today. The interior has been remodeled, but the exterior looks remarkably the same.
The Ortman Chiropractic Clinic is celebrating their 100th Anniversary this year! Our open house is scheduled for April 15 and we have another celebration planned for July 9. I am gathering information about our history and would like a copy of these pictures for our archive, would you be willing to share?

Rihannon,
I’m happy to share these and my other photos that show the clinic and hotel. If you can give me a few days, I will upload high-resolution originals to my photo server and send you the link so you can download them.

Sadly, the Ortman Hotel was demolished this week (not the clinic, just the hotel). So these photos are all the more important! Loved your article! Thank you! My father was a chiropractor there in the 70s before passing away at the young age of 38.

Oh dear, I’m sorry to hear the hotel was demolished. Those photos of my Dad are among my favorites. May the Lord bless your father in eternity. That is so young to die.
